German DJ and producer legend Mijk Van Dijk returns with a new material on German Kling Klong imprint (sub-label of Great Stuff Records).
Busy as always with his own Dubmission events in Berlin and his global DJ gigs, he finally returned to studio with Martin Eyerer to produce two new driving tracks: "Closer" and "Wider", mind-numbing and hypnotic minimal-tech tunes filled with dirty atmospheric scrapes and bleeps.
For those who don’t know, he’s responsible for one of the biggest club tracks of all time: Marmion's Schöneberg (released on Superstition, later signed to Hooj Choons & FFRR), which became a huge classic since its release back in 1996 and still sounds great today.
For over one decade, Mijk van Dijk has been acting on the forefront of the electronic dance music scene. He started out as a producer of hard techno records, later in 1992 he paved the way for melodic techno sounds and has been a pioneer for a new sound called „Trance“. Dijk produced with artists as diverse as DJ Hell, Claude Young, Takkyu Ishino, Thomas Schuhmacher, Toby Izui, Namito, Rob Acid, etc. He also remixed artists like Moby, Denki Groove, Humate, Arpeggiators, Sonic Animation.
That Dubmission thing has to be seen in a different light. In my opinion it's just an helpless attempt to reanimate good old times. Time which won't work in Berlin as many other attempts demonstrated before. Dubmission is only used to give away its name and publicity to push a club called Safe, former Kapital. That club is a stillborn child as since years several carriers tried to revive it. Now their concept is disco-like, about featuring rock/pop and hip hop. Literally Dubmission had been relegated to the fringe of electronic, to be part of a non-profilic disco. Unfortunately Mijk van Dijk, who patronises Dubmission, is red-hot and doesn't see that development.
