Barely escaping its closure, clubbers could breathe a sigh of relief when in March 2006 the Berlin based PolarTV club cut down its regular program. At the same time of PolarTV’s 3rd anniversary Karina Mertin, and Frank Quickstern, heads of carrier No Ufos, illustrated the club’s future as being occasionally open only and ready for hire; a gift Berlin promoter Ostfunk thankfully made use of.
Over summer 2006 their countless imprints (f.e. FKK, Ostfunk, Incognito, Backstage, a.m.m) made the PolarTV venue appear quite busy, even kind of back in full strength. Though, while being abroad on vacation No Ufos head Mertin recently got the notice of termination; the club has to fully vacate until December 2006.
PolarTV is very close to Berlin’s new central station, the main north-south rails are just some meters far away. Rumours say German rail company Deutsche Bahn requires the very same territories for future urban and infrastructure development. The club’s closure means also the end for Mizgalski & Tatsch, heads of Ostfunk. "We are sad about PolarTV’s disappearing from the stage of Berlin clubs. Good big size venues are few and far between our city. Though, we already signalized to switch over to Maria am Ostbahnhof, a venue of similar capacity and quality."
No Ufos now fully concentrates on its cosier club affiliate, the Sternradio.
