Barcelona’s Sonar, the essential meeting point for an alert public, cutting-edge artists and the most influential professionals from the sectors of music and modern arts launches the next editions of SonarSound in Japan and Korea.
The festival in Tokyo will feature more than 40 artists, while in Seoul there will be an exhibition explaining the history of Sónar Barcelona. Catalan artists Angel Molina, Guillamino and the duo Dj 2d2 + Griffi (Sólo los Solo) will be part of the bill at both events.
SonarSound Tokyo will take place on October 7, 8 and 9, and SonarSound's Seoul exhibition will open on October 12, 2006.
Third edition of SonarSound Tokyo (7, 8, and 9 October) will transform the Yebisu Garden Place in the Japanese capital into the epicentre of electronic culture and advanced music. For three days, a spectacular bill in which music is beyond a doubt the biggest attraction will appear on two stages, including more than 40 performances by artists from ten different countries.
Names of such calibre as De La Soul, DJ Krush, DJ Hell, Señor Coconut, Boom Boom Satellites, Diplo, Nobukazu Takemura, Afra and his Incredible Beatbox Band, the new project of Yukihiro Takahashi (member of the already legendary Yellow Magic Orchestra, with surprise guests), Rei Harakami and Shiro Takatani, Eliot Lipp, Oil Works, Softpad, DJ Kentaro, Golden Pink Arrow, Optrum, Tucker, and the return of acid house classic Altern8 will turn the festival into an exceptional window into the present and immediate future of avant-garde music. This is a golden opportunity to enjoy a close-up view of the work of some of the most influential artists on the international scene today.
A conference by Jeff Mills entitled ‘Concept Music’ and the photographic exhibition ‘Post(Digi)Graphy’, on exhibition at the Metropolitan Photo Museum, will complement the festival’s musical component in the Yebisu Garden.
Sónar will make its debut appearance in Korea. Predominantly expository in nature, SonarSound Seoul will cover the extra-musical side of Sónar as well as focusing on Sónar’s contribution to the revitalization of the digital art and new audiovisual production scenes.
A complete edition of SonarCinema from Sónar 2006 in Barcelona, two photographic exhibitions which cover various moments in the history of the festival, and an overview of Sónar campaigns over the last ten years will also be presented. The exhibition will open with a talk/conference by Sónar’s directors who will explain the festival’s evolution within the cultural context of international electronics.
All music performances will be held on the nights of 13 and 14 October and will feature the creations of three outstanding Spanish artists: Angel Molina, and the duo made up of Griffi (Sólo Los Solo) and DJ 2d2. Japanese Doravideo and some of the biggest names on the Korean electronic scene (DJBK, Lee Gun, Giro, Hojun) will round out the musical programme.
