Crobar New York in trouble?

November 18, 2006  |  By Sotek  |  1

logo_crobar.jpgThere's a rumor spreading among New York clubbers that one of the biggest and most popular night clubs in notoriously popular West Chelsea district of Manhattan, Crobar, may be closing down.

Although there's no official statement / press release available at this time, popular New York Post's gossip column Page Six has reported yesterday that the venue is in ongoing financial trouble and its owners are forced to pull the plug:

"November 17, 2006 -- CROBAR owners Kenny Smith and Cal Fortis may be forced to say goodbye to their West Chelsea nightclub. Page Six hears its financial backers - described as "tough-guy Greeks who wear track suits and flashy jewelry" (including one "real b-buster" ironically called "Little Tommy") - are pulling the plug.

Smith and Fortis have two other Crobars, one in Miami and one in Chicago, but our tipster assures us they are "being pushed out" of New York. Crobar did not respond to calls."

Crobar New York officially opened in 2003. Providing nights featuring resident DJs like Sasha, Deep Dish, Victor Calderone, Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, and Sander Kleinenberg as well as top quality local talent, Crobar quickly established itself as one of the NYC's top clubbing destinations.
