Linkage: (Still) remembering 2006...

January 2, 2007  |  By Sotek  |  0 Comments

- Resident Advisor takes a serious look back into 2006 with its coverage of what, when & why happened in dance music last year: "Make me a hit, baby, one more time..". What?

- Spillers Records in Cardiff is the world's oldest record shop and it looks set for closure. The shop, which started in 1894 was the first to sell wax phonograph cylinders. [AngryApe]

- The XLR8R staff has polled their favorite labels, producers, graphic designers, clothing companies, and friends to find out the fashion favorites of 2006 and those trends that elicited nothing but hate.

- British rock band Queen has been awarded the title 'Biggest British Band Of All Time' by voters of BBC Radio 2. The legendary band surpassed the number two on the list, The Beatles, with 400 votes. [365Mag]

- Some (fake) news at the end: 2 Many DJs and the Plump DJs are to merge, mirroring the wave of consilidation currently underway in the corporate world. The new combined outfit, said to have a market capitalisation of over $3 will be called "2 Many Plumps". As a result of the merger, at least one Friday every 2 months will be freed up at Fabric in London. A spokesman for the breakbeat industry Mr. GBF commented that "the fusion of 2 Many DJs and the Plump DJs into '2 Many Plumps' heralds a new era of cost control and synergy that will set a blueprint for the breaks genre as a whole."
