On Friday, January 5, New York City Police Department shut down two nightclubs in the notorious West Chelsea district of Manhattan: Crobar and SOL.
Both clubs will be closed for at least five nights under the NYC's Nuisance Abetment law. The scrutiny on nightclubs in the West Chelsea district has been at an all-time high for a past few months with mounted police and barriers closing off the streets.
The New York Post says that NYPD "cited nine instances of violence," drug arrests, and underage alcohol sales. The Post also reports that SOL's offenses included drug arrests, assaults, and during the raid, police found "two men in the DJ booth rolling a marijuana joint with coke out in the open." Great!
There will be a hearing on Wednesday, Janaury 10 to determine whether the clubs can be reopened for business.

the NYPD's war on nightlife is unacceptable and is doing nothing but making new york a more boring place to live and putting thousands of nightlife employees out of work. |

54, Limelight, Tunnel, Jackie 60, Twilo... this is history repeating itself. NYC will reinvent nightlife over and over until the end of time. Club kids will always evolve out of each decade. Drugs and music will always go hand in hand. They cant stop it. It's NYC dammit. |
