Love Parade 2007 cancelled

Today, February 21st, Loveparade Berlin held a press conference that left a bomb-like news behind: Berlin's Loveparade 2007 has been cancelled.

After a short film about the 2006 event owner and managing director Rainer Schaller spoke his mind to give reasons:

"Last year I took over an event that had been screwed up in its last years. I was surprised about the lack of support when we gave the Parade its second life. The football worldcup was a hard competition and caused many people being in doubts about our plans and the parade's success. We managed to solve all problems though: waste, security etc... All partners we had in 2006 wanted to continue their support for a parade in 2007. Due to a positive feedback and a save financial sponsoring by McFit, Bitburger beer and Pioneer the costs of about 3 million Euro could have been covered. All that lead to my decision to take over Loveparade company."

By saying this he's alluding to a still missing permission on the part of Berlin authorities. For Schaller this cancellation is a bitter pill as on the one hand he's ready to host the 2007 parade and on the other hand necessary investments had been placed already. Schaller seems to have learned though. He announced to write out Loveparade 2008, to find "another European metropolis able and willing to host a new Loveparade."

Schaller's biggest critic, Dr. Motte, understandingly replied: "I know about those difficulties very well. Though I don't see myself connected to Loveparade anymore; I don't give a shit. To boot, I am not interested in Berlin anymore. Right now I am moving to Cologne. Electronic music had always a high potential and this potential is my interest. Loveparade never made it to enrich the club scene and to enthuse this scene the way it enthused its attendants. That hardly depends on Berlin senate's lack of interest. Now Rainer Schaller and his fitness sect...äh...chain had to discover how things are "managed" in Berlin; that is to say very unprofessional."
