Detroit-based DJ and producer Matthew Dear will release his second full-length artist album, Asa Breed, on Ghostly International in June.
Dear has earned his international status over the course of a decade, from getting his bearings as a DJ at clubs like Fabric and releasing original recordings on such labels as Spectral Sound, Minus, Perlon, and others.
Soon becoming the flagship artist for the Spectral Sound imprint (a sub-label of Ghostly Int.), Dear has released numerous albums and singles under his birth name, as well as his Audion, False and Jabberjaw guises.
The new LP, a follow-up to Dear's 2003 debut Leave Luck To Heaven, is a collection of material he has been working on over the past few years. He recorded parts of the album in Detroit, and others in Texas, his original home. "A lot of the record deals with abstractions of human relationships. I didn't realize until afterwards that this was the theme of the record because when I write it's spontaneous and ideas come quickly - but it's very much a record about love," Dear told Pitchfork.
The first single off the album, Deserter, will be released May 8. The 10" vinyl single features a remix by Four Tet and a non-album track called "You Know What I Would Do".
