The Filter for iTunes now available

March 23, 2007  |  By Sotek  |  1 Comments

200703_the_filter_logo.gifPeter Gabriel-backed music recommendation plug-in for iTunes, The Filter, is oficially available now for the first time for both Mac and PC, as well as selected Nokia mobile phones.

At the heart of The Filter is a music recommendation engine that is continually learning the listening tastes and choices of tens of thousands of users. This huge collection of information is combined with your own preferences to create a personal understanding of what songs you will like to listen to and when. As your music tastes change, and collection grows, The Filter will evolve with you to keep providing relevant music for all occasions.

Currently The Filter only supports Apple iPods or devices which mount as a hard drive. You'll also need an active internet connection to synchronize your library. Once synchronised the application will work offline, however, if you make any changes to your library you will need to re-synchronise.

The Filter is an excellent piece of software - I was on the Alpha test team for the original Mac version and I'm so impressed with the playlists that they have been able to build from my iTunes library. By the way, I've managed to get The Filter to fill up my phone, pretty cool.
